Spencer was raised in Northern Virginia and as an adult relocated to Southern Utah in 2008. He decided to continue his education by moving to Logan, UT where he graduated from Utah State University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Following the completion of his bachelor’s degree, Spencer moved his family to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to enter The University of Southern Mississippi’s Marriage and Family Therapy master’s program. After graduating with his master’s degree, Spencer and his family returned to Utah where he worked as a therapist at a community mental health center from 2015-2021. Spencer launched his private practice, Valiant Endeavors Counseling Services in 2021 and provides in-person and tele-therapy mental health consultation, assessment, and treatment to adolescent and adult individuals, couples, and families in both English and Spanish.
Spencer’s clinical experience in community mental health and crisis work has provided him with a broad knowledge of mental illness and has allowed him to work with a diverse clientele. Spencer has received training in and is currently working towards certification in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for children and adolescents. He is a Certified Youth Mental Health Specialist, and has also completed and incorporates Levels 1 & 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy in his therapy work.
While he predominantly works with kids, adolescents, and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, and trauma; Spencer is especially interested in helping individuals and couples/families improve their family relationships so they can increase their social supports and become more resilient in their personal lives. Spencer also has clinical experience helping individuals, couples, and families address compulsive video game and pornography usage.
